La Paz, Baja California Sur.- President Calderón inaugurated the Juan María de Salvatierra General Hospital with Specialties in La Paz, Baja California Sur, which will benefit 600,000 inhabitants and have 28 top-level medical specialties and services.

“The Salvatierra Hospital will change the history of Baja California Sur as far as health is concerned. There will be a watershed in this hospital and not only in this hospital which commemorates the Bicentennial but also in the series of hospitals and clinics we are building in Baja California Sur, he said.

Accompanied by State Governor Narciso Agúndez Montaño, and Federal Health Secretary José Ángel Córdova Villalobos, the President declared that despite the limitations it faces, during his administration, over 1,700 health facilities have been built.

He added that the goal for 2012 is for all Mexicans to have Universal Health Coverage, in other words, a doctor, medicine and hospital treatment for anyone who needs it anywhere in the country.

“Fortunately and thanks to Mexicans’ efforts, we are not only able to offer nearly two billion pesos for health but we are also supporting and will continue to support the development of Baja California Sur from Federal Government,” he said.

Governor Agúndez Montaño declared that this “opus magnum” “marks a new stage in the health institutions and quality of health care of the residents of Baja California Sur.”

At a cost of 760 million pesos, he stressed that this is the best way to commemorate Mexico’s Independence by establishing the bases for a long-term transformation of the population’s health.
